Last week, I had the opportunity to see a very nice patient in her mid-eighties with a bad toothache stemming from a lower molar.
Seeing that many of our patients weren’t born in San Diego, I always find it interesting to see where everyone is from. Well, after five minutes of conversation, it turns out that Maggie was born twenty minutes from where I grew up in Dayton, Ohio. We had a wonderful conversation reminiscing about Dayton; the restaurants, the old time shops and the suffocating summer heat of the Miami River Valley. As I examined her tooth and inquired about her previous dental history, it turns out Maggie had seen my Grandfather for her dental care when she was in her forties. She remembered him like it was yesterday. The tooth that needed treatment turned out to be adjacent to a root canal my grandfather had completed in the mid-eighties! I completed the root canal on Maggie’s tooth and she walked out with one tooth treated by myself and one by grandfather, side by side. What a cool experience!
